Hotel is a friendly little place with rooms arranged around a central courtyard. The standard rooms are large, bright and nicely furnished with traditional textiles. Upstairs are the suites which have small kitchens and balconies offering nice views of the city. Tika Bistro Gourmet is nice little restaurant next door to the hotel that combines Thai and Vietnamese flavors and techniques with traditional Peruvian ingredients.

The hostal is fairly small and constructed in Colonial architecture. The rooms in the first courtyard are older and have more character while those at the back are newer but less interesting. They also have a second hotel Amaru Hostal II which is often offered when the first hostal is full. The rates are the same but Amaru Hostal II isn't nearly as nice and the location isn't as convenient or as safe. "Party Hostels for Backpackers" is how they describe themselves. there are Point Hostels in Lima, Cusco, Arequipa, Mancora, La Paz and soon to be opening in Puno. The spacious colonial house has around 100 beds in both dormitories and private rooms. The emphasis is on drinking and partying will will suit many backpackers, but definitely not for everyone.

All of the other hotels can be found down in the Urubamba Valley in the town of Aguas Calientes. The hotel now has 29 rooms (10 of which have preferential views) and 2 suites although none of the rooms have direct views of the actual ruins themselves. As you would expect, all of the rooms are comfortable and well equipped, but it is the unique location that you are really paying for. IMMIGRATION CARD - (article) I just booked a room at Cuscotheir email confirmation states "Please do not forget to bring your immigration card that is inside your passport so that you are not required to pay IGV (General Sales tax) on top of your room fees." I don't have my passport on me because it's off being renewed but if I just bring my passport along, I should have this so called "immigration card" right? Or is this something separate? TIA! ANSWER: When you enter Peru, you will fill in an 'immigration card' (ours was a white piece of paper). Yes, present it at any accommodation so as to avoid paying the tax and keep it with your passport for safety; so you know where it is! Immigration card Peru picture
